#9 | Soprano Ellen Williams | @ONSTAGEMUSICPODCAST

Welsh classical artist Ellen Williams has been praised for her “poise and promise, her voice agile with silvery charm” (The Guardian), and has been described as singing “with heart-piercing sweetness” in The Times. Ellen has performed both internationally and in many of the UK’s most prestigious concert halls including the Royal Albert Hall, Cadogan Hall, Royal Concert Hall Glasgow, Bridgewater Hall, the Wales Millennium Centre, and for HRH The Prince of Wales in Buckingham Palace. Since the beginning of the pandemic and the devastating effect on live music in the UK, Ellen has turned her musical efforts to recording work, and her debut single Dancing with the Angels released for Christmas 2020 entered the Official Classical Charts at No 1. Since then, Ellen has gone on to release an EP of classical arrangements of film-score greats titled Cinema with copies selling in Europe, USA, Asia, Canada, North and South America, New Zealand, and across the UK. It’s been a popular disc that includes songs from James Bond, Gladiator and The Lord of The Rings. Coinciding with its release in October 2021, Ellen was announced the winner in the Classical Crossover category of the Future Classic Women Awards, and was delighted to be a featured artist on Scala Radio. Most recently Ellen released her debut Christmas album, a collection of traditional carols, festive favourites and one or two lesser-known Christmassy gems, titled A Christmas Wish. In concert Ellen has performed operatic arias with the Orchestra of Welsh National Opera and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, and has appeared as the soprano soloist in numerous sacred works including the Fauré Requiem and Handel's Messiah in St David's Hall, Haydn’s Creation in the Brangwyn Hall, and Orff's Carmina Burana in Gloucester Cathedral. Further highlights include being asked to sing at the wedding of Sir Bryn Terfel, performing Vera Lynn songs in the Royal British Legion Festival of Remembrance concert, and appearing as a soloist in the Welsh premiere of The Bards of Wales conducted by Sir Karl Jenkins.
